GENEVA, Switzerland, March 11 (UPI) -- HSBC Private Bank in Switzerland said Thursday a data theft previously revealed to include fewer than 10 clients, in fact involved 24,000 clients.

(AP:GENEVA) British bank HSBC says information on 15,000 customers with accounts in Switzerland has been stolen. HSBC says a former employee stole the information in late 2006 and early 2007. The accounts were all opened before October 2006.

GENEVA - SOME 24,000 customers may have been affected by the theft of data from a Swiss branch of banking giant HSBC three years ago, Mr Alexandre Zeller, chief executive of HSBC Private Bank, said on Thursday. HSBC Private Bank (Switzerland) said 9,000 of them had since changed banks, leaving 15,000 of its remaining customers concerned by the leak.
